Novits (Fleur Bonnevits) is a Dutch composer and artist whose music explores themes of inner conflict, personal growth, and human connection. Her work is defined by contrasts, grand arrangements intertwined with evocative, intimate soundscapes. In her practice, she seeks to bring worlds together, blending the organic warmth of folk, rock, and pop with the richness of classical instrumentation. The result is cinematic music that feels both raw and refined, reminiscent of artists like Florence + the Machine and Hozier.

Biography

Born in Rotterdam and raised nearby, Fleur was immersed in music from a young age. Inspired by musical theatre performances she saw with her mother and exposed to the diverse musical tastes of her father and grandfather, her passion grew early. Core memories include singing along to Disney soundtracks with her sister and watching Hercules on long car rides. She has always been fascinated by mythology, folklore, and magic. Secretly, she’d read under the bedsheets until midnight, escaping into worlds of fantasy. At the age of seven, she picked up the guitar, and later she began writing and performing her own music. While she has explored various instruments over the years, her voice and guitar remain at the heart of her work.

In 2018, Fleur attended Codarts Lyceum, where she embraced interdisciplinary projects and developed a passion for creating music for film, theatre, and dance. During this time, she began collaborating with string players and experimenting with film scoring, laying the foundation for her future career.
In 2021, she pursued a Bachelor’s in Songwriting and Production at Codarts University of the Arts, where she refined her skills in songwriting, recording, producing, and mixing. Her work often blends traditional instrumentation with electronic elements, reflecting her love for both organic and modern sounds.
In 2024, Fleur expanded her creative horizons by studying Composition for Film, Theatre, and Media at ZHdK in Zurich. Most recently, she began a Master’s in Classical Composition at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she continues to explore the interplay between pop and classical ensembles, aspiring to become a bridge between these worlds.
